Komatsu's Smart Construction Dashboard Mobile: Jobsite Data Without Walking Back to the Office
For years, the real-time 3D jobsite view that Komatsu's Smart Construction Dashboard builds from design files, drone data and machine as-built information has lived mostly on an office computer. At CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, Komatsu closed that gap with Smart Construction Dashboard Mobile, a companion app that puts cut-and-fill volumes, stockpile measurements and in-field line and area measurements directly into a field superintendent's or project manager's pocket.
It's one piece of a larger software push Komatsu made at CONEXPO, but it's the piece that most directly changes a daily routine for someone running a jobsite. Here's what it actually does.
What Smart Construction Dashboard Already Does, and What the Mobile App Adds
Smart Construction Dashboard is a cloud-based platform that builds a 3D virtual twin of a jobsite using design files, drone data and as-built information from machines equipped with intelligent machine control or Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance. That centralized view supports planning, progress tracking and reporting across the life of a project, and as-built data from IMC-equipped machines imports with minimal manual effort.
Smart Construction Dashboard Mobile extends that same data out of the office and onto a phone or tablet. Users can view cut-and-fill and stockpile volumes on-site, and perform in-field line and area measurements without walking back to a trailer to pull up the desktop version. For a superintendent walking a site to verify progress against plan, that's the difference between checking numbers in real time and waiting until end of day to reconcile what actually happened against what the dashboard says should have happened.
Two New Hardware Pieces That Make the Data Easier to Capture in the First Place
Komatsu paired the mobile app with two new hardware tools designed to simplify how site data gets captured before it ever reaches the dashboard. Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance Flex adds as-built data capture to nearly any vehicle, including supervisor trucks, scrapers and wheel loaders, with dealer installation typically taking only a few hours. It also displays current position against final design on an in-cab tablet, which is especially useful for scraper and loader operators who need that guidance without a full intelligent machine control system.
Smart Construction Edge is an RTK base station that can process drone data directly on the device, which in some conditions makes it possible to use that data in Smart Construction Dashboard before the crew even leaves the site. On sites smaller than 50 acres, Edge eliminates the need for ground control points entirely, cutting a step out of the survey workflow that used to require a separate trip or a third-party surveyor.
"There is real value in having current, reliable terrain and production data from your jobsite," said Jason Anetsberger, Senior Director, Customer Solutions, at Komatsu. "Knowing what was completed today helps teams plan tomorrow, communicate clearly with clients and make better decisions. Our focus is on making that information easier and faster to collect and use."
A Bundle Built to Lower the Barrier to Entry
Komatsu also introduced the Smart Construction Advantage package, which bundles Smart Construction Dashboard, Smart Construction Remote for remote operator support and design file transfer, and Smart Construction Fleet Lite for basic payload tracking, all at a lower combined price than buying each application separately. The bundle also unlocks two tools available only through it: Smart Construction Whiteboard, a drag-and-drop digital dispatch tool modeled after a traditional office whiteboard, and Smart Construction Home, a map-based homepage showing every active jobsite and its completion percentage with a direct link into its dashboard.
This technology ecosystem builds on the same intelligent machine control foundation Komatsu already runs across excavator classes from the PC210LCi-11 up through the PC490LCi-11. We've covered how that grade-automation technology scales from a mid-size excavator to a true heavy-class machine in our comparison of the PC210LCi-11 and PC490LCi-11, and Smart Construction Dashboard is effectively the office-level view of the same data those IMC-equipped machines are already generating on the ground.
It's also worth comparing how differently Komatsu and Hyundai Construction Equipment have approached excavator-level technology generally. Hyundai built a camera-based operator-awareness system, while Komatsu built GPS-driven automation, and the two are genuinely different engineering philosophies we broke down in our AAVM versus Intelligent Machine Control comparison. Smart Construction Dashboard Mobile is really an extension of Komatsu's side of that philosophy: push more automation-generated data to more people, faster.
Why Owning, Not Renting, Changes the Payoff on This Technology
A rented machine rarely comes configured with the intelligent machine control hardware that feeds Smart Construction Dashboard's as-built data in the first place, and a rental agreement almost never includes a Smart Construction Advantage subscription tuned to your specific jobsites. A grading contractor financing an IMC-equipped excavator or dozer, by contrast, captures the full value of that data pipeline for as long as they own the machine, across every project it touches, not just the one job a rental happened to cover.
For site-development, grading and earthwork contractors running multiple active jobsites at once, Smart Construction Home's map view alone can save real windshield time that used to go toward physically checking in on a site just to confirm basic progress. Combined with Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance Flex retrofitted onto a supervisor truck or scraper, a contractor can start capturing this kind of data even on equipment that isn't IMC-equipped from the factory.
A dashboard that lives on a phone instead of only an office computer sounds like a small convenience, but for a superintendent who used to drive back to the trailer to check progress, it's a real change in how fast decisions actually get made on-site.
